{"id":82,"date":"2023-03-04T13:05:00","date_gmt":"2023-03-04T18:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lepetitparc.ca\/mathieu\/?p=82"},"modified":"2023-10-27T23:46:24","modified_gmt":"2023-10-28T03:46:24","slug":"the-cold-song-le-genie-qui-est-venu-du-froid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lepetitparc.ca\/mathieu\/2023\/03\/04\/the-cold-song-le-genie-qui-est-venu-du-froid\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00ab\u00a0The Cold Song\u00a0\u00bb &#8211; Le G\u00e9nie qui est venu du froid"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purcell et <em>King Arthur&nbsp;<\/em> : BRRRR!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JE ne croyais pas conna\u00eetre l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra baroque<em> King Arthur<\/em> de Henry Purcell, sauf pour un petit  <em>First Act Tune<\/em> interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re lors d&rsquo;un concert de la SOFOU (Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de fl\u00fbte \u00e0 bec de l&rsquo;Outaouais) dont je fais partie.<br>\u00ab\u00a0<em><strong>King Arthur<\/strong><\/em>, sous-titr\u00e9 <em>The British Worthy<\/em>, est un <em>semi-op\u00e9ra<\/em> en cinq actes sur un livret de John Dryden (1631-1700) et une musique du musicien et compositeur anglais <strong>Henry Purcell <\/strong>(1659-1695)  Il fut donn\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois en mai ou juin 1691 au Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Dorset Garden de Londres. \u00a0\u00bb  (<em>Wikipedia<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or, il semble que je connaissais d\u00e9j\u00e0 l&rsquo;air le plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bre de cet op\u00e9ra, tir\u00e9 du 3\u00e8me acte:&nbsp; <strong>\u00ab\u00a0The<\/strong><strong> Cold <\/strong><strong>Song\u00a0\u00bb <\/strong>ou <em>What Power art Thou ?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">R\u00e9cemment,Youtube m&rsquo;a propos\u00e9 ce  bien bel arrangement pour vibraphone, fl\u00fbte \u00e0 bec basse (interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e par Sarah Jeffery) et harpe :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Cold Song - Purcell (on vibraphone, recorder and harp) | Team Recorder\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vCESMDObLFE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L&rsquo;Air d&rsquo;origine est normalement chant\u00e9 par une basse ou baryton dans l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra, mais bien des enregistrements n&rsquo;expliquent pas le contexte et pourquoi la voix du personnage est si chevrotante dans cet air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les cin\u00e9philes d&rsquo;un certain \u00e2ge se souviendront peut-\u00eatre du film <em>Moli\u00e8re<\/em> de la r\u00e9alisatrice Ariane Mnouchkine. (\u00ab\u00a0Le tr\u00e8s long m\u00e9trage d&rsquo;Ariane Mnouchkine (4h10 en deux \u00e9poques !),sorti au cin\u00e9ma en 1978, existe aussi en version plus digeste de cinq \u00e9pisodes, dont le d\u00e9coupage a \u00e9t\u00e9 assur\u00e9 par [A. Mnouchkine] elle-m\u00eame \u00ab\u00a0) <em>(liberation.fr<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans la sc\u00e8ne finale de ce film, on voit Moli\u00e8re s\u2019effondrer sur sc\u00e8ne pendant une repr\u00e9sentation du <em>Malade Imaginaire<\/em>. (fait historique)<br>Puis on ram\u00e8ne Moli\u00e8re chez lui, mourant, et on doit lui faire monter de longs, tr\u00e8s longs escaliers, et toute cette sc\u00e8ne est accompagn\u00e9e de cet <em>Air du froid<\/em>, justement. \u00c0 mon lointain souvenir, la sc\u00e8ne me parut interminable (ainsi que le film lui-m\u00eame, peut-\u00eatre ?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans la production suivante de tout l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra <em>King Arthur<\/em>, (mise en sc\u00e8ne partielle), r\u00e9alis\u00e9e devant public \u00e0 Boston, on d\u00e9couvre que c&rsquo;est en fait Cupidon (une fort jolie Cupidon !) qui r\u00e9veille et \u00ab\u00a0d\u00e9g\u00e8le\u00a0\u00bb le <em>G\u00e9nie du froid d&rsquo;Islande<\/em> qui proteste qu&rsquo;on le sorte ainsi de son sommeil glac\u00e9. :&nbsp; (L&rsquo;air du G\u00e9nie lui-m\u00eame est vers<strong> 1:25<\/strong>) :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Frost Scene (Cold Genius awakes) King Arthur Z. 628\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4aL3tzwYKA0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Le Roi Arthur<\/em> (3\u00e8me acte)  de Henry Purcell<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Remarquons en passant les effets d&rsquo;archet des violons dans l&rsquo;accompagnement&nbsp; (effet qui s&rsquo;appelle <em>ponticello<\/em>, sauf erreur),&nbsp; effet aussi utilis\u00e9 par Vivaldi dans le Concerto <em>L&rsquo;hiver <\/em>des <em>Quatre saisons.&nbsp; <\/em>\u00c7a donne froid dans le dos! )<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bon, le pauvre <em>G\u00e9nie d&rsquo;Islande<\/em> proteste qu&rsquo;on le r\u00e9veille ainsi de son sommeil glac\u00e9, par les soins pressants de Cupidon.<br> Mais \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 ce qui s&rsquo;ensuit avec cette Cupidon, <em>methinks that the Genie doth protest too much !<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Et l&rsquo;Air fait en fait partie de la <em>Frost Scene<\/em>, o\u00f9 on voit plus loin (<strong>vers 8:00<\/strong> dans le m\u00eame vid\u00e9o ci-dessus) les <strong>choristes <\/strong>eux aussi frigorifi\u00e9s et  <em>d\u00e9congel\u00e9s <\/em>par les bons soins de Cupidon, dans le <em><strong>Chatter Song<\/strong>.<\/em>  (On peut se les imaginer claquant des dents.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212; Et comme ils chantent tous \u00e0 la fin de la sc\u00e8ne,  &lsquo;<em>TIs indeed Love that hath warmed their hearts !<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Voici les paroles de l&rsquo;<strong><em>Air du Froid:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>What power art thou<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Who from below <\/em><br><em>Hast made me rise<\/em><br><em>Unwillingly and slow<\/em><br><em>From beds of everlasting snow<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>See&rsquo;st thou not how stiff<\/em><br><em>And wondrous old<\/em><br><em>Far unfit to bear the bitter cold<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I can scarcely move<\/em><br><em>Or draw my breath<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Let me, let me,<\/em><br><em>Let me freeze again<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Let me, let me, let me<\/em><br><em>Freeze again to death&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ah, dans la mise en sc\u00e8ne de cet enregistrement, on voit en arri\u00e8re-plan une dame en grande robe, et un homme en jaquette et perruque. Ce sont le Roi et la Reine \u00e0 qui on pr\u00e9sente ce \u00ab\u00a0semi-op\u00e9ra\u00a0\u00bb.  Ils n&rsquo;ont pas de r\u00f4le chant\u00e9, ni m\u00eame parl\u00e9 dans cette production , je crois !?
